1. MAGYAR - XXIX. OLIMPIAI JÁTÉKOK - PEKING

A Magyar Posta háromcímletű bélyegsorozat kibocsátásával köszönti a 2008. augusztus 8-24-i nyári olimpiai játékokat.
Pekinget 2001. július 13-án választották meg a XXIX. nyári olimpiai játékok házigazdájának Moszkvában, a Nemzetközi Olimpiai Bizottság 112. ülésén. A kínai főváros korábban már pályázott a 2000. évi nyári olimpiai játékok megrendezésére, de Sydneyvel szemben alulmaradt.

Várhatóan 205 nemzet sorakozik majd fel a megnyitóünnepségen, ezt követően pedig 28 sportágban, 302 versenyszámban mérik össze tudásukat a sportolók. A tervek szerint Pekingben lesz a legtöbb versengés, de néhány versenyt más városokban rendeznek: a vitorlázást Qingdaoban, a lovaglást Hong Kongban, a labdarúgást Qinhuangdaoban, Sanghajban, Shenyangban és Tianjinben.
A Magyar Olimpiai Bizottság hazánk egyik legrégibb szervezete, 1895-ben alapították. Kiemelten közhasznú testületként irányítja a magyar olimpiai mozgalmat, melynek képviseletére, egyszersmind az olimpiai szimbólumok - az öt karika, a jelmondat, az olimpia szóhasználatára kizárólagosan jogosult. Legfontosabb feladatai közé tartozik a magyar sportolók nevezése a nyári és a téli olimpiára, illetve az olimpiai csapat felügyelete és irányítása az ötkarikás játékok időszaka alatt. A szervezet hivatalos honlapja szerint a pekingi olimpiára 2008. március 30-ig részvételi jogosultságot szerzett 60 sportoló (39 férfi, 21 nő), valamint a férfi és női vízilabda-válogatott (13+13 fő), továbbá a női kézilabda-válogatott (15 játékos). Emellett atlétikában és úszásban 19-en az „A” szintet, 21-en a ”B" szintet teljesítették.

A bélyegkiadással az olimpiai játékokat és a magyar sportolók sikeres szereplését köszönti a Magyar Posta. A sorozat címletein a kínai akvarell technika ihlette háttéren leegyszerűsített, a mozgás lényegét hangsúlyozó grafikai kompozíció részeként a vízilabdázás, a birkózás és a tőrvívás sportágak képviselői láthatók. Az alkalmi boríték rajzán a bélyegek színvilágához és grafikájához illeszkedően egy legyező részlete található. Az alkalmi bélyegző egy kínai legyező stilizált rajza.
